Class 5 is taught by Mrs Bennett and Mrs Collington with a Learning Support Assistant providing extra support where needed.
In Class 5 we start the year with our geography based topic ‘Rivers’ where we explore how rivers are formed and change. Our English work links to high quality fiction and non-fiction. In maths we begin with place value and explore larger numbers. In music we begin whole class recorder lessons.
Our next topic plunges the class into the great unknown in our science based ‘Space’ topic. We learn about space exploration, explorers and the planets. Again, high quality fiction supports our writing and grammar work. In maths we continue to work on fluency of the four operations and the relationships between fractions, decimal and percentages. In PE we develop our ball skills in basketball and football.
In the summer term the children take a step into the past in our history based ‘Ancient Greeks’. We use traditional Greek myths as starting point for writing our own and showcasing all that we haven learnt this year. In maths we strengthen our reasoning skills and focus on measures, including time. We discover how to use different sources to piece together the past and learn why it is important to check information. In computing we try our hand at coding.
