Year 6
In Year 6, the class is taught by Mrs March from Monday to Thursday and Mrs Assorto-Taylor on Fridays. They are supported throughout the week by our Learning Support Assistant, who helps children with extra support and small group work where needed.
The year begins with a real highlight – our residential trip to a PGL centre. The children spend a few days away enjoying outdoor activities, team challenges and plenty of fun. It’s a brilliant way to start the year, helping them build confidence, encourage one another, and experience what it’s like to be away from home.
Our topics for the year are called Challenges, Conflict and Adventure. Through these, the children explore subjects such as History, Geography, Art, Drama, Music, Computing and Design & Technology. They also continue to develop their skills in PE, Science and French.
In May, Year 6 children take their SATs. We’ll share more details with parents closer to the time, but our focus at St Edward’s is on making sure every child leaves us feeling ready for secondary school – not just in their learning, but in their confidence and friendships too.
To finish the year, the children take part in the end-of-year performance – a wonderful opportunity to show off their acting and singing skills, celebrate their achievements, and enjoy a special farewell to St Edward’s.
