Foundation Stage
The Foundation Stage is where children begin their education at St Edward’s. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum where play centred activities are central to children’s learning and development. In addition to our extended classroom we also have our own outdoor area which is used all year round and is a great space for children to use their creativity and imagination to express their ideas.
Learning is based around a range of themes through the year. We begin by exploring the theme of ‘Journeys’ including a trip to explore our local area. Other topics we cover are ‘People Who Help Us’, ‘Colour’ , ‘Traditional Tales’ and ‘Mini-beasts’. We are always busy in our play where children engage in both child led and adult led activities and are encouraged to get involved in first hand experiences to explore and investigate the world around them. At the heart of our learning, it is important that children are having fun with the opportunity to thrive and grow in their independence, setting them up for more formal learning as they progress into Key Stage 1.
The class is taught by the class teacher, Mrs Collington with additional adults who support throughout the week.
